Malz died January 23rd at the age of 85. He earned a baccalaureate degree from Gallaudet University in 1943, and received an honorary doctorate in 1993. He also earned a master of fine arts degree from Catholic University. Malz was a loyal member of the Gallaudet University Alumni Association and he served on the GUAA's Laurent Clerc Cultural Fund Committee from 1994-1995. According to legend, Malz was partly responsible for the bison becoming Gallaudet University's mascot. He was a member of Gallaudet "Five Iron Men" basketball team who won the 1943 championship title which brought fame and glory. Malz was gifted in so many areas -- teacher, actor, playwright, director, translator, poet, writer, sportswriter, tale teller, and friend. Malz was instrumental in placing theatre in sign language on the world stage, adapting many classics for sign language productions in conjuction with the National Theatre of the Deaf. He was heavily involved with the Gallaudet Dramatics Club as an undergraduate and ran the Model Secondary School for the Deaf's theatre program from 1973 to 1986. The MSSD auditorium on the Gallaudet University campus was named in his honor, "Theatre Malz." Malz was also a filmmaker during the 1940s. Condolences may be expressed to the family at

HELP THE ENVIRONMENT AND OUR SCHOOL
Recycle your empty printer cartridges and/or used PERSONAL cell phones & pagers by bringing them to the front office or contacting Dane Officer or any KPTA officer. (NO Clerc Center or University cell phones or pagers at this time, please!) This will be an ongoing activity with no deadlines, so bring/send them in whenever! When the boxes are full, they will be sent to a special recycling center and earn money for the KPTA. (no phone chargers, power cords batteries, or toner BOTTLES, please.) This does include Clerc Center printer/copier cartridges, too (per Bill Humm). Collection boxes will be in the mailroom, and perhaps other locations to be announced later.
If you have any sitting around because you haven't found a convenient way to dispose of them and did not want to just THROW them away, here is your chance!
Collect from your neighbors & friends for Kendall School.... (At least you aren't selling them any more cookies!)
