Kendall Cafeteria Update:

The Kendall Cafeteria workers have informed me that they are having difficulty performing their jobs due to the fact that utensils and other implements have disappeared again. For a while things were improving but it seems the Kendall Community has once again decided that the cafeteria is a resource for whatever one might need. I was told that people recently stopped by and helped themselves to the worker’s cloth aprons – many serving utensils are still missing. People frequently stop by to get cups and plates and such, even though we have agreed long ago that the teams need to order such things on their own, especially if you serve snacks every day. Additionally, more and more adults seem to be helping themselves to breakfast and lunch, some even leaving the cafeteria, even though we all know that only those adults who are on duty with the children are supposed to partake in the meals, and “on duty” means at the table assisting and interacting with the students. Recently some adults have complained to the café workers about not being able to get seconds of a given lunch item. As we all know by now, we have a specific “count”, the quantity that is sent to us from the main café at Gallaudet. The ladies who serve lunch are responsible t o try to make sure that all of the students across different lunch periods have an opportunity to get “firsts”. If they are unable to give seconds at an early lunch, it is because they are using their judgment to serve all the students on any given day.

However, if you do need anything on an emergency basis, please ASK the café workers or me if they can spare that item that day. The cafeteria workers contribute much energy and hard work each day. They are operating within system parameters set by me in order to insure the best service to all of our students. Please help them to succeed.

Thank you.
Don Mahoney

· Upcoming Technology Training Opportunities:
SMART Board & Notebook in the Classroom- Tuesday, April 18, 3:15 PM @ KDES TecEds Lab"Now I that have a SMART Board in my classroom, what do I do with it?" This class will demonstrate the power of using the SMART board and Notebook in your classroom. NOTE: This workshop will not focus on basic set up of the SMART board. Please contact the trainers directly for this type of training.
Microsoft Word – Track Changes - Wednesday, April 26, 3:15 PM @ KDES TecEds LabIn this class you will become familiar with and learn how to use the Microsoft Word ‘Track Changes’ feature at a basic level. Microsoft Word has built-in tools to help you revise your own draft or comment on someone else's draft. These tools are called "Track Changes" and "Comments." They operate on the same principle; that is, they allow you to make changes or comments without changing the original document. The author of the document can review your changes and/or comments, then accept or reject them.

Contact Bill Humm - William.Humm@gallaudet.edu if you'd like to reserve a place in either of these classes.

Gallaudet University’s Theatre Arts Dept. and Amaryllis Theatre Company Present

a new translation in American Sign Language and spoken English

Directed by Mimi Kenney Smith

Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare’s comedy classic of love declined and love regained, comes alive as never before through the simultaneity of American Sign Language and the spoken word. From the witty war of words between Shakespeare’s most famous comic couple, Benedick and Beatrice, to Dogberry’s delightful mangling of the Queen’s English, Shakespeare’s sparkling romantic comedy asks the question: when do we trust what we hear and see?
