Project Harvest

Greetings Clerc Center Family! It is time for our Project Harvest food basket contribution drive. Project Harvest is a charitable organization in Washington DC that provides families in need with a Thanksgiving food basket. Gallaudet University, MSSD, and Kendall School will be participating in this event. Please let us know if you are able to make a contribution of money for the purchase of fresh turkeys, hams, fresh vegetables, and greens, bread, eggs, fruit, and deserts. Donations of canned food are also needed.

Have you seen the creative boxes made by our students yet? These boxes are located around the school to collect canned foods. Contributions of money may be made by checks payable to Project Harvest. Please seal the money in an envelope and then give it to Georgia Weaver, Beth Betman, or the School Social Work intern, Tajudeen Akinlotan. Any contributions given, would give these families a wonderful Thanksgiving meal!

Project Harvest is also a good opportunity for our students to become involved in an important community service. Students are being asked to volunteer their time to prepare posters and boxes as you can see. In addition, 8-10 students will be asked to go out into the community to participate in Project Harvest by bagging vegetables, sorting cans, and assembling food baskets. The baskets will be picked up by families who have requested a thanksgiving basket.

We hope you can help a family with a nice and nutritious family meal!

Thank You!
Georgia Weaver
School Counselor

HATS OFF to the KENDALL VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS

What an EXCITING season!

Skills and drills are our focus as we learn the game of volleyball and work to figure out the positions that suit our strengths.

Each player brings different experiences and talents to the court. Renee Glanville and Lily McNamara have demonstrated power serves. Karina Martin has made many saves. Lark McNamara and Shadaye White often made more than 5 straight serves and demonstrated an outstanding sportsmanship in each and every game. Ariana Myers the rookie and quickest player on the team, was always on the move on the court. Tiffany VanBoxlaere, Kelly Doleac, Stephanie Vazquez, and Amberlin Hines have shown great improvement in their skills, and we look forward to having them again next year. Together, the team brought with them a great mix of talent, energy, and drive.

The first regular game of the season, we lost to our rival, Maryland School for the Deaf (Frederick), BUT… we got our sweet revenge by beating them at the last regular game. It was an exciting and close game. Our overall record was 7 wins and 3 losses.
KDES is a part of the PVAC league. We were surprised and excited that we were seeded #1 with a league record of 5 wins and 1 loss. Unfortunately, the team didn’t fare well during the semi-final game against Covenant Life. The score was 25-23, 21-25 and 10-15. In spite of our disappointing loss, the coaches are extremely proud of our volleyball players for an outstanding job all season long.
Good luck to the 8th graders who will be moving on into the next level (junior varsity or varsity levels).

We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to parents, teachers, staffs and friends for their tremendous support. By watching our games, and giving compliments to the players, you have inspired our girls to play well.

We hope to see more fans at the next volleyball season. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Kelly Orsi and Steve Doleac for all of their support throughout the volleyball season.

We hope more girls will join volleyball next year! Come and join us!

Head Coach, Tonya Killam
