Announcements - May 5th

  • It’s time of the year – the volunteers who have been covering front desk during some slot times are “leaving” us. The front office now desperately needs help to cover front desk. We really need help on Mondays 830 to 12pm; Tuesdays 830 to 10am; Wednesdays 830-12pm and Thursdays 830-10am. If you can help during those times for a few hours or even for an hour, that would be much appreciated! Please see Ruth Innes if you can volunteer some time.
    Thanks.

  • Graduate Certificate in Deaf History

    Program Description
The Graduate Certificate in Deaf History offers training in the growing field of deaf history. It provides graduate level courses in a broad range of related topics, including Deaf American, European, Media and Disability history.

Professionals who learn about the history of deaf people will bring new insights and scholarship to their teaching, sign language interpreting, researching, writing, counseling, and social work. The program offers courses during the summer and academic year as well as on-line courses.

    Who Should Apply?
This program is for professionals who want to learn about the history of deaf people and who are seeking new insights and information to benefit their teaching, sign language interpreting, research, writing, counseling, or social work. This program is designed to appeal not only to traditional students in history, but also to such professionals well-versed in deafness as interpreters, deaf studies teachers, psychologists and sociologists working with deaf clients, secondary level deaf educators, and Gallaudet alumni. The summer program is structured to appeal to students locally and nationally.

Dr. Susan Burch will come and give a presentation about the Graduate Certificate in Deaf History at MSSD in the ASL/Deaf Studies Classroom (225C) on Monday, May 8th, from 3:15 to 4:00 pm.
Please RSVP to Carina G. Hed-Edington by Friday, May 5th(email: Carina.Hed-Edington@gallaudet.edu
