Back to blogging
I hope you all did well on your testing. Now that we are winding down to the last few weeks of school, let's do some blogging! Look at the photo and read the quote below.

"Girls are always striving to be perfect body types. Athletes are going to be more prone to it. This program gives you no excuse." Glenis Moore, 17, a junior and a midfielder on the soccer team at Page High School in Franklin, Tenn., and an Athena squad leader. Click here to read the article, "Schools' Prevention Efforts Aim to Halt Rise of Steroid Use."
WHO are some professional athletes who have been accused of using steroids?
WHAT are anabolic steroids? WHAT is the Athena program?
WHERE have you heard or read about athletes using steroids?
WHEN have you changed your diet or other aspect of your life to be able to perform better at something?
WHY do you think some athletes take steroids?
HOW many female high school athletes have tried steroids?
Now go to your blog and write a response to this article. Be sure to include answers to the above questions.

Teens adrift at sea rescued after 6 days
Imagine ...you go fishing with your best friend and find that you are lost out in the ocean with sharks circling your boat. What would you do? What is going through your mind?
Read this article or this interview from CNN News.
After reading this article we will discuss what we read.
1. Who are Josh Long and Troy Driscoll? How did the boys survive? What is your response to this story?
2. What lessons did the boys say they learned from their ordeal? What additional lessons, if any, do you think can be learned from this type of an experience?
3. What sources of strength, if any, do you draw upon when faced with a frightening or challenging situation? Explain.
After our discussion, go to your blog and type your response to this article.

What do you think about child labor?
Good morning!
Last week you created an account with a username and password on www.blogger.com (or I created one for you) and created your very own blog. Now let's write!
Read the Photo Essay "Child Labor in Focus" from Time for Kids Online OR
Read the article "Too Young To Work" about the kids in the U.S. who are forced to do hard work on farms.
When you are finished reading, write in your blog and include answers to the questions below:
What is the author trying to tell us in this essay?
How do you feel about the images in the essay?
What do you think about child labor?
What should be done about child labor?
Include any other thoughts, feelings or questions about the essay.
When you are finshed writing, click Publish Post.
I look forward to reading your thoughts about this issue.

Welcome to the Literacy Blog!
Good morning!
I am very excited to start a new blogging project with you. Once a week, you will be reading about current events and writing your reactions in your own blog. Check out the NewsQuest blog and click on the Student's School Blogs in the left hand column. Be patient, it may take some time to load.
When we are all done looking at some examples, we will go to www.blogger.com and create a new account. Follow my directions on how to do this.
I know you all will be great bloggers!!!
