Reading Response to Anne Oakley # 3

This was a excellent book on Anne Oakley. I learned that she never stopped performing until she was 53. She performed for a long time. She got money from a job she liked. We should take example from her and make money with the job we like. Most people wake up in the morning thinking "darn I don't like my job." They should be thinking "yay, its time for my job." Anne performed for a long time. She performed for 34 years and she had gray hair when she performed. It seems like the stage was calling her. Maybe it was calling her and it made her famous. She put brown wig on when she performed for the audience. It was wonderful to see a excellent woman who stood up for herself and had her dignity.

Reading Response to Annie Oakley # 2

The characater in this book is Annie Oakley Mozee. She was born in Ohio. She learned to shoot when she was eight. She entered turkey shoots when she was little. Annie Oakley is a role model to woman everywhere. She may had used a gun but she still had her diginity. Four men proposed to her and she was already married. She sent a picture of the men back with a shotgun hole in his head. Annie commented he was ugly as a monkey and he threatened to kill hisself. Annie is truly daring but she is modest. She viewed herself plain little Annie Oakley. She is certainly not plain.

Reading Response to Anne Oakley

I started a book about Anne Oakley. She was a famous cowgirl and was declared world champion. She beat some of the famous cowboys. But she did not beat all of cowboys on the world because she did not have the time to. However, she was not famous until she joined Buffalo Bill's show. She dressed like a woman all the time though she shot rifles and shotguns. Sitting Bull adopted her and gave her an Indian name Watanya Cicilia. It was little sure shot translated into English. In Sitting Bull's mind he was replacing his daughter who he lost recently. Plus did you know Anne Oakley felt threatened about a fifteen year old competior and lied about her age. This is a good book about Anne Oakley.

My dad

The person I cherished the most in my family was my dad. I remember that he always had time to play with me. He did not know sign language. However, we always knew what each other wanted without gesturing. We shared a special bond. He built my brother and me a tire swing with a tire from his big truck. He also always took me with him to pick blackberries. After that, I would have it with sugar. I had to share it with my brother. He ate the blackberries with no sugar because he had diabetes. Every month, he would bring boiled peanuts for us to share.

I always came with him to his work at our home. He had 5 acres of land. A fourth of it was for our home, other fourth for his logging company, and the rest an untamed wilderness. My dad would let us come with him to play with the baby pigs. We had a farm on the half for his work. He bought chickens. When the hens had eggs, He would let us watch the chicks hatch. Then My brother and I would hold it. My father also taught me how to ride a bike. He bought me a rabbit, a dog, and a cat. He also taught me how to control a wild pig. I miss him very much. He died on Aug. 29, 1999. However, I feel he is still here in my heart. His memory will live on.

I am deaf and quiet

I am deaf and quiet.
I wonder what the ocean sounds like.
I hear the ocean toss and turn.
I see them toss and turn.
I want to hear the birds sing.
I am deaf and quiet.

I pretend that I am hearing.
I feel like my world is too quiet.
I touch the earth’s sounds.
I worry if my sight will be gone along with my hearing.
I cry about not being able to hear.
I am deaf and quiet.

I understand that I can’t hear again.
I say I am deaf and proud of it.
I dream of everyone being deaf.
I try to not to let my deafness be an obstacle.
I hope everyone will be deaf someday.
I am deaf and quiet.

My Family

My family is special to me. Every year, we have a family reunion. It takes place in Savannah, GA around July 31 to Aug 2. I t takes place in GA because most of us live there. Some have to fly or they stay home. It takes place in the same place over and over. Everyone brings food. My grandmother always make sloppy joes. We don't travel together every year. We celebrate holidays together every year. We celebrate Christmas, Easter, and lots of other holiday. Our religion is Methodist. We also have traditions other families don't have. For example, we open one gift before Christmas. That is my family!

Reading Response to Nicole Brown the diary of a life interrupted # 3

The worst experience Nicole ever had with O.C. Simpson was when they were married. O.C. Simpson beated her up in their home. He then put her in a closet and he watched a sport show. Once in while he would stop watching the show and beat her up again. Nicole described that she was afraid of O.C. Simpson after that because he could hit so hard. That was the most shocking part I read in the book. O.C. Simpson also acted like that in public. His fans still loved him after that. They was blind to his rage. After that, O.C. bought a knife. The very same knife was discovered at the murder site. Did O.C. kill Nicole out of his rage or did someone else do it? I believe that O.C. Simpson killed Nicole. After all he felt no remorse when he beat her up, so he would feel no remorse when he killed her. The case have never been solved. It remains a mystery even today. How did O.C. Simpson escape the death penalty? Was the judge blind to his rage like the fans?

Reading Response to Nicole Brown the diary of a life interrupted # 2

Nicole Brown, a diary of a life interrupted is starting to be despressing. It is actually making me cry. I had no idea that O.C. Simpson was so mean. Simpson cheated on Nicole while they were married. When Nicole divorced him, she started dating other men. O.C. Simpson got angry at her for that, he should have not been angry. After all, they were divorced. He had no right to be angry. After all, who cheated on another while they were married? One bad experience Nicole ever had while they were married was that O.C. Simpson beat her up in their hotel suite. He then dragged her out by her hair. Nicole cried her heart out for three hours until a security guard found her. That was not right. He should have not gotten away with it, but he did get away with it.

Reading Response to Nicole Brown the diary of a life interrupted # 1

I started reading Nicole Brown Simpson the private diary of a life interrupted. It is a story about a woman who was married to O.C. Simpson. This book is written by her best friend Faye D. Resnick because Nicole is dead. This book tells you about Nicole's suffering. O.C. Simpson is known widely for his smiling face. But when he is not in the public is the face the same. I am sorry to report it is not the same. Instead it is the face of a rage-achololic man. O.C. Simpson beat Nicole up when they were alone. They had two children together. But Nicole got six abortions because O.C. Simpson did not like to see her fat and Nicole did not want any more children with him. O.C. Simpson cheated on Nicole but did Nicole cheat on him once, no she never did. This book is sad and shockingly true. I recommend you to read it.

Reading Response to Other World # 2

The chapter four of Outer World is interesting. It is called Oops, Never Mind. In this chapter, Scientists make mistakes. One of the scientist are Andrew Lynes. He "found" a planet. It was not a planet, it was light reflection from the moon. Lynes had courage to admit his mistake to people. I felt that took a lot of courage. Another scientist made a mistake. His name is Van de Kamp. He "found" a planet too in 1937. A man proved him wrong in 1970's. Van de Kamp did not admit his mistake. He continued to insist that he found a plant until before his death.

Reading Response to Other World # 1

I started reading Outer World. This book is about the search of lifeforms on other planet, in other galaxies. I think that aliens do exists. The book only made me believe into that more. There are dozens of scientist that worked on finding lifeforms and therories that changed the world. For example, there was a man named Giorano Bruno. He had a theory that there was countless suns and earths all rotating around their sun the same way of our seven planets of the solar system. He was burned at the stake for that theory. I believe in that theory. After all we can't be the only living things in the universe. There could be aliens looking up at their sky and wondering what lived up there like we are doing every night. There are many proofs that aliens exists. What about the Roswell incident? Was that aliens' spacecraft or something else? I believe it was an alien spacecraft.

New Fema Head Appointed

When I read New Fema Head Appointed", I was happy because Micheal Brown did not do his job fast enough. As for the new FEMA head, I hope he do a better job than Micheal. The new head will be acting director. That means that he will lead Fema until the president makes a new appointment. The president said he took full responsiblity n the article. Theat means he took responsiblity because FEMA is goverment in some ways. It was his fault about FEMA. Pretty much everything is his fault anyway.

Response to a newspaper article

I was saddened by what I read in " For Many Causualties, No Who, How, or When" This article was from Washington post online updated yesterday. It was shocking to see how many people can be separated by a hurricane. There was a woman who was called by her twin sister who lives in New Orleans. The twin sister was stuck in the house with nine dogs and cats. Her last words was "Let me find some plywood, bye" The twin sister in Chicago then felt that her sister was dead in her heart. There was a amazing story too. A hundred year old woman was stuck in suffocating second floor bedroom for five days. She lived for those five days but as soon as a helicopter recused her and was flying her to a hospital she died.It was sad. Then there was a family of a man who survied the hurricane but died soon after that. His daughter said he grieved hiself to death because his wife was dead. I can't imagine my famiy gone, house destroyed or my things smashed to little bits. I am thankful the hurricane did not hit VA. I will try to help the surviours of the hurricane

My Autobiography

My name is Sarah Smith. My family knows me as the chatterbox. The people on my bus knows me as the squirrel. My father and mother are American from European descent. I am the fifth of the six children with my three sisters and two brothers. All of my siblings, except my only younger brother, are my half siblings. I grew up in Savannah, Georgia. The crime rate there is high. I did not exactly have a good childhood. My father died when I was nine in a car crash. He crashed into a tree and it fell on his truck. I saw the accident scene and will always remember that image for the rest of my life.Plus, I was taken away from my mother and placed into foster care. I stayed in two different homes in 1 and a half year. I was one of the few lucky ones. Most foster kids move from one foster home to another like 6 times a year. Whereas, I was adopted by my cousin. I was again lucky. Few foster kids get adopted and they usually get adopted by total strangers.

I became deaf from spinal meningitis at the age of two. My mother did not think I was desperately sick. My father thought otherwise. He called his mother to take me to the hospital. I had a tempature of 103 degrees. I almost died. I would have died if it was not for my father. I feel proud of my deafness. I have never been ashamed of it. Why should I be ashamed? It is not like it is a handicap. My deafness does not affect my personality. I am the same stubborn Sarah when I was 2. In fact, I love my quiet little world. I have attended three mainstreamed schools before coming to Kendall. It was a lonely experience. I was the only deaf person at the first two schools. I had friends but it got boring after a while fingerspelling to them. They also knew few signs. I longed to have a conversation with a deaf person. When I graduated from Hesse Elementary School, I got my wish. I entered DeRnee middle school and found a small group of deaf people. There was only five of them. Sure, it was a small group but it was not for me. I saw many of my friends who was with me at Hesse Elementary School. I only had interpreters at two of of the mainstreamed school.

I live with my cousin and her best friend now. I love playing soccer, reading, watching TV, and playing with my gameboy. I am lousy at soccer. I am outgoing with deaf people but shy around hearing people. I don't know why. Maybe I am afraid that they will criticize me. I am a bookworm and proud of it. I could read at high school level since I was in seventh grade. I especially love the fantasy books with lots of dragons, magic, and traveling in time and space. My favorite fantasy series are Harry Potter books. I am addicted to them. If you give me a fantasy book, I will devour it within a day or two. My least favorite genre is nonfiction. Sure, I will read newspapers but I won't read boring nonfiction. The make-belief world is cooler than the real one.
