This book is the second in the series of Eragon. This book is about Eragon, a sixteen year old boy who has a dragon. They are linked in their mind and heart. Eragon's dragon is called Saphira. Her scales are sapphire blue. Saphira came to Eragon as a blue egg. Eragon thought she was a jewel and was surprised that she hatched. They had been frineds ever since. Eragon also received a silver diamond mark on his palm from Saphira. That mark linked her to his mind and made him a Dragon Rider. A rider was highly respected as they kept peace. They were highly respected, even more than the king. However, there was a situation where a dragon rider had to work for the king or be killed. The king was a rider who had stole a dragon egg. So, Eragon did not intend to work for him because he was evil. This book takes place in the land of Allesgia. Eldest starts when Eragon had defeated the Shade, Duraz. A shade is a evil spirit that takes over a human body. Eragon had been crippled by the Shade's magic. However, he was still the Rider. Eragon was praised and his nickname became Shadeslayer. His full name is now Eragon Shadeslayer.
